Signs You Need Fire & Smoke Damage Restoration

Even a small fire can leave damage you can't see. These are the signs your home needs a professional cleanup.

Homeowner covering nose from lingering smoke smell in a living room after a kitchen fire

Smoke Smell That Won't Go Away

You aired out the house, opened the windows, and lit candles. The smell still comes back. Smoke gets into walls, insulation, and air ducts — and stays there until it's pulled out.

Yellow soot staining around an HVAC vent after a small house fire

Soot, Yellow Stains, or Sticky Film

Walls, ceilings, countertops, and glass feel sticky or look yellowed. Soot is acidic. Left alone, it eats into paint, metal, glass, and electronics within hours.

Wet carpet and drywall after firefighters extinguished a residential fire

Water Damage From Putting the Fire Out

Firefighters save the house with a lot of water. Soaked drywall, carpet, and insulation can grow mold in 48 hours if they aren't dried out the right way.

Charred drywall and burned cabinets after a residential kitchen fire

Burned Drywall, Framing, or Contents

Char and burned materials have to come out before anything else gets cleaned. Furniture, cabinets, and electronics may need pack-out for off-site restoration.

Complete Fire & Smoke Damage Restoration Under One Roof

IICRC-certified restoration technician HEPA-vacuuming smoke residue from a wall after a residential fire

Fire & smoke damage restoration is more than wiping down walls. Soot is acidic and spreads through every room your air conditioning touches. Smoke odor sinks into drywall, insulation, fabrics, and HVAC ducts. Firefighting water soaks into the structure and can grow mold in two days. Our IICRC-certified team handles all of it — start to finish — so you only deal with one company instead of five.

Soot & Smoke Residue Removal

We start with HEPA vacuums to pull airborne soot, then clean every surface using the right method for the kind of smoke you have. Dry smoke gets dry chemical sponges. Wet smoke and oily kitchen smoke get alkaline degreasers and enzyme cleaners. Each surface is cleaned before any wet method so the soot doesn't smear deeper into the wall.

Smoke Odor Removal

Wiping surfaces only gets surface residue. The smell hiding inside walls, insulation, and ductwork needs hydroxyl generators, thermal fogging, or ozone treatment depending on the job. We use hydroxyl whenever your family can stay in the home, because it's safe for people, pets, and electronics.

Contents Cleaning & Pack-Out

Furniture, clothing, electronics, and personal items get cleaned on-site when possible. When the damage is heavy, we pack them out to our restoration facility and use ultrasonic cleaning to save what we can. Fast pack-out is the difference between saving electronics and replacing them.

Our Process

How Fire & Smoke Damage Restoration Works

From the first call to the final walkthrough — here's exactly what to expect.

Suncoast Mold & Water Restoration crew working on a fire-damaged home
Step 1

Emergency Inspection & Damage Assessment

We walk your home with moisture meters and thermal cameras to find every spot the smoke, soot, and water touched. Then we write a clear plan and start your insurance claim with you.
Step 2

Board-Up, Water Extraction & Structural Drying

We secure broken windows, tarp the roof, and remove all firefighting water. Air movers and dehumidifiers dry the structure within days so mold never gets a chance to start.
Step 3

Soot Removal & Smoke Odor Treatment

Every surface gets HEPA-vacuumed and cleaned using the right method for your type of smoke. HVAC ducts get cleaned so the smell doesn't come back. Hydroxyl, thermal fogging, or ozone treatment finishes the job.
Step 4

Repairs, Reconstruction & Final Walkthrough

Our licensed reconstruction partners replace drywall, paint, flooring, and cabinets to bring your home back to pre-loss condition. We walk through with you at the end and stand behind the work in writing.

Why Choose Suncoast Mold & Water Restoration

Family-owned, IICRC-certified, and we show our work. Here's what you get when you call us.

Suncoast Mold & Water Restoration team performing IICRC-certified fire and smoke damage restoration

We're a family-owned restoration company — not a franchise call center. When you call, you talk to the person handling your job. Our crew is IICRC-certified in fire and smoke damage restoration, odor control, water damage, and applied structural drying. Every job follows the ANSI/IICRC S700 standard, which means a written restoration plan before any work starts and photo documentation through every step.

We bill your insurance directly so you only pay your deductible. No Assignment of Benefits. No surprise upcharges. We document the loss, walk the adjuster through the scope in person, and make sure your claim gets paid for the work you actually need. You stay out of the middle of it.

We show our work. Before-and-after air quality readings prove the smoke is actually gone, not just covered up with deodorizer. If the smoke smell comes back within 30 days, we come back and re-treat at no cost. That's not a vague "satisfaction guarantee" — it's in your contract.
